look what I got!

bombay india ink
12 vials of Dr. Ph. Martin's Bombay India Inks! *dance*

I've been curious about these color inks for a while now, but they are not available in Thailand. (I've looked all the places I knew). So it's up to Santa to get me some, which I'm very thankful for. Thanks santa!

This is the very very first test.
first color ink test

I love how the ink flow so easy, unlike the current ink I use for inking, altho the black isn't as opaque, but nothing photoshop can't fix*, yeah?

A gift you can share

I got a gift from Francis Vallejo, not personally, hahaha. He put a zip file containing 117 Dean Cornwell's illustrations up for download on his blog. I must admit I never heard of Dean Cornwell before, but I love this style, I love this mute colors, compositions, everything.

Some examples:
Dean Cornwell illustrations

go here and grab the file! you'll like it. (if you like this sort of thing)

Also, as a bonus, a while ago, I stumbled upon the site with illustrations of J.J.Grandville that I found very inspiring.

They are here if you are interested.

If you know any illustrators along this style you'd like to share, share!

Merry Christmas/Holidays/Winter Solstice/yay-long-days-off

2008 is bad year, the worse yet, I'm just glad it will be done soon.

I bought myself this as a xmas/new year gift:
Moleskine sketchbook

yeaah Moleskine® sketchbook, it's something I have been wanted for a while, I wanna know what's the fuss is all about. It's probably one of the most extravagant things I bought. The price is like 5 times what I usually pay for sketchbook, (if I pay at all, I prefer drawing in individual sheet).

I must say I'm really happy with it, and will probably buy new one when this one is filled, (assumed that I won't be totally dirt broke beggar then.) I have read people complained about quality of papers and how it won't work with their mediums and stuff, but really, I absolutely have no problem with it at all, in fact, it's the best paper for copic I have found so far, and I tried craploads of papers.

woot

I ran out of title about doodling

First, cg that I was trying to finish, but, you know what they say about my concentration, hahahaha....

*sob*

The sketch:

A few random doodles, still trying to find balance between speed and details

(no, that dogman isn't feeling up Nefertiti)

a sketch for new comic page:

and this, is what keeping me from ever finishing anything, ever.

Doooooodles night!

It started with helping a friend with some quick graphic.

Then I realized, hey, I can do this pretty fast, each one take less than 5 mins. Why not do more for fun?

and more I did.

speedpaint stuff

I was just sketching away, trying to not get rigid about cging, trying to not trying too hard (confuse?), I think I like the result better when I don't worry about making them looking pretty, weird huh?

Walled City of Kowloon

is my new muse.

I always love abandoned places, be it factory or hospital or amusement park. I have a lot of photo of those places in my HD. But abandoned cities hold the special place in my heart, I love looking at them, I love reading about them, I love everything about them, and love to use them in my comics, San Sabian was born from my obsession with Gunkanjima. Because of this, I knew most of the well-known abandoned cities, Prypiat (of Chernobly fame), Gunkanjima, Centralia, etc.

But not the Kowloon Walled City.

Kowloon walled city aerial view

Thanks to this blog article via Digg. This blog had just earned a honorary position in my rss feed lists XD

Maybe the different of this city compare to other abandoned cities is that the ruin itself no longer exists. The city was demolished in 1993 and in its place is now a park.

quote from wiki:
...the Walled City began to grow. Square buildings folded up into one another as thousands of modifications were made, virtually none by architects or engineers, until the entire City became monolithic. Labyrinthine corridors ran through the City, some former streets (at the ground level, and often clogged up with refuse), and some running through upper floors, through and between buildings. The streets were illuminated by fluorescent lights, as sunlight rarely reached the lower levels.

It's survival horror heaven.

The outside view of it is nothing new to me, you can find plenty of this kinda buildings in Thailand. But the gems are (were? since it no longer exists XD) inside. The narrowed street, the stair between the buildings, the wires, the pipes. It sparked my imagination like no other things do, and I'm not the only one affected by it. :)

These little images are from this site

My favorite inside shot.

For more photo (much much more) check out this forum, there's also a book, but.. 85$ @_@, a shaky video of the city (from 1990, skip to 6:00 for the inside of city).

Some Doodles, Liquid City, and Snarry

First, Cute shoes, does anyone have shoes like this? or is it considered an abomination like Ugg? I really don't understand fashionheads.
weee

I got Liquid City in my hands, and it is really cool!

Full colors, big and thick, all glossy, mmmm.
Liquid City Anthology

Liquid City Anthology
Table of contents, my name is misprinted here, no biggy tho.

Liquid City Anthology
Mine is right on page 100! only 7 pages tho, but good 7 pages I promise! buy it please?

seeing it like this, make me want to have my own whole comic book in colors, this size, this thick, this glossy, I guess that's my goal now |D

Lastly, lovely Snarry* if you don't know what Snarry is.. ignore this XD

I probably should have separate lj for pervy stuff, but I didn't do it that often, just once in a blue moon, so bear with me yeah?

Cat Prince vs. the Ugly Puglies

This is a commission for a children book. I don't know if I like it or not, something seems a bit off, but I haven't done any color illustration for a while, I just can't seem to find the balance to practice BOTH illustration and comicking.

And as a disclaimer, this is a homage to this comic page, as per client's request. (I need to cover my ass)

Now for the WIP.

Comic and stuff...

I gotta have to come up with better post title.

Website for Liquidcity anthology is up. This is an anthology featuring creators from south east asia and beyond, put together by Sonny Liew. I contributed 8 (or was it 7? haha) pages comics called 'Me and My Food'. Among the contributors, there's FSC, Jon Foster, whose name I recognized. Other name I recognized is Hu Jingxuan, whose work was in MIMC2 initial screening as well.

On other news, I did inking (and toning) job a few months ago, for a comic called Dog Eaters, which sadly the writer decided to switch to colors instead of bw as it was initially planned (bw don't sell =/ ) so I only did the preview issue, which is now available for download as PDF format here.

I like inking job, it's good to have little income while working on my own stuff which might probably not make any money, if anyone need inking/toning monkey, let me know.

stuff stuff stuff

I have this weird habit that I just don't like drawing in sketchbook at all, I just can't do it, I prefer drawing in individual sheet, not just comic page, but every sketches, doodles, even to write down ideas. I tried to use sketchbook, I have a few, but never be able to stick to them till they are filled out, before I know, I grab a printer paper and draw on it.

some random doodles

and, look what I got!

It's much bigger than I thought.
